You are attending a record-breaking business dialogue between Russian and Japanese businesses. Allow me, on behalf of the community, to welcome you to our site.
There are about 200 leaders in the hall today, representing the largest companies not only in the two countries, but also in the world’s largest companies, which underlines the unprecedented interest that the development of our economic relations is generating. And the level of the discussion that took place indicates the seriousness of the intentions in the implementation of specific projects.
Moreover, despite the fact that the portfolio of these projects has long ago exceeded a hundred, many finally moved on, it did not happen so quickly, but finally moved to the stage of practical implementation. And therefore, there is, has been and will continue to be a conversation, as they say, of practitioners, and not of theorists.
During the session, Russian and Japanese entrepreneurs spoke about their successes and the existing barriers that prevent them from moving forward, and outlined the existing promising areas of cooperation. In particular, the Toyota Corporation spoke about the accumulated volume of investments, over a billion, in the Russian economy.
Japan Tobacco Company – about more than one and a half billion investments in the purchase of Donkor Tabak. The head of Rostom, Alexei Likhachev, shared his experience of interaction with Japanese colleagues in terms of eliminating the consequences of the Fukushima accident in terms of creating globally competitive products together.
And this proposal is to create value chains for Russian and Japanese companies, it is extremely relevant not only for the leaders of the Russian economy, such as Rostom, but also for small companies, companies involved, for example, in digital technologies. The Hey Pi company, in particular, spoke about cloud-based information processing solutions using artificial intelligence, which they are engaged in together with Fujitsu.
Of course, there was a discussion of the extremely important issue related to the need for cooperation in raising labor productivity. And here Toyota is already helping Russian companies. The Japanese Post, working together with the Russian Post, managed to achieve that today at the French Dialogue they were talking about Greater Europe.
but in general there is still Eurasia, Greater Eurasia, and one can talk not only about Vladivostok and Lisbon, but also about Tokyo and Lisbon. And the movement of Japanese goods to Europe has already halved thanks to the cooperation of Russian Post, Japan Post, and Russian Railways.
The President of Russian Railways highly appreciated the prospects for our development, the development of transport infrastructure. By the way, I focused not only on this, but also on the development of healthcare, where, while fulfilling the tasks related to increasing life expectancy, which Mr. Prime Minister and you spoke about today, cooperation has already begun in terms of the work of Japanese partners and the modernization of clinics. Russian Railways”.
What else would you like to note? Of the questions asked to date, Mr. Yasumasa from the Mitsui company not only talked about how the company’s agreement of intent was being converted, which were signed at one time, including during your, now called colleagues from Japan, historical visit in Tokyo, during which a lot of agreements were indeed reached, and now almost all of them have already passed into practice.
Well, in addition to the prospects, the company said that it had begun making a film about the love of a Russian soldier and a Japanese girl, because without an understanding of cultural characteristics, it would probably not be possible to create proximity between economies either.
In order for the projects that we have been talking about to go faster and more efficiently, to increase their number, our sovereign wealth fund, the Russian Direct Investment Fund, together with JBIC, created the Russian-Japanese Investment Fund and also presented today the results, which are extremely impressive, noticeable the results of their projects.
Vladimir Vladimirovich, I would like to ask you to speak and welcome the representatives of Russian and Japanese business. Then we will ask Mr. Abe to add his position.
Two years have passed since the announcement of the seven-point cooperation plan. There is an opinion that the scale and quality of economic relations between Japan and Russia are insufficient in terms of the formation of a mutually beneficial business. And I would like to ask Mr. President a question about the following.
As for work in the Far East, where Japanese business attracts attention, a lot of work remains. The business climate in Russia is improving now, it is on a par with Japan.
For example, the Russian government is now implementing a variety of measures, such as ASEZs and the free port of Vladivostok, and so on, but Japanese business is not very actively involved. To expand business, it is necessary, first, to create infrastructure in the Far East and carry out a variety of work, including the extension of preferences in the tax system.
And we would very much like to see a system of guarantees, an improved currency exchange system, and so on. If such infrastructures are created, then I think that the Japanese will participate more actively in this market as well.
I spoke about this several times, but the point is that infrastructure, when we work in Russia, I think that in Russia, for example, in the form of PPP, and other measures should be taken to create a climate.
For our company Marubeni, today is a special special occasion, because today we signed a memorandum on the creation of a high-speed railway network, a toll road, which is planned to be implemented in Russia. For us, this is very good news. Of course, we must always work in accordance with the demands of the times.
In 2009, we spun off a sales office into a subsidiary and began direct sales of photographic products, digital cameras and medical printed industrial materials, responding to a wide range of needs in the Russian market. In addition, in March last year, together with the R-Pharm company, we signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of healthcare, and during the year we studied the possibilities of joint activities.
