After changing the design of the piston group, the flow rate has decreased markedly. It is believed that since 2015 the engine got rid of most of its sores. Its resource is 250,000 – 300,000 km.
Opel 1.8 Z18XER
Opel’s 1.8-liter “four” of the Z18XER series was installed not only on Vectra, Astra and Insignia, but also on related GM models. By design, the engine is quite simple – distributed injection, the absence of valve lifters. Of the technical delights, only the valve timing adjustment system can be called. Maybe that’s why he is able to run 300,000 km, and often more, before a major overhaul. True, before that you will have to change the timing belt, valve cover gaskets, heat exchanger and crankshaft oil seals. However, it is not very costly. In addition, the motor has good maintainability, and spare parts are inexpensive.
Hyundai/Kia 1.6 G4FC
This motor has been installed on Solaris and Rio since 2010. On the second generation of these models, the unit acquired a second phase shifter on the exhaust shafts. The engine is based on an aluminum block and cylinder head, in the timing drive there is a metal chain with a resource of at least 150,000 km. Valve clearances are mechanically adjusted every 40 thousand km.

During this time, the unit managed to get rid of its childhood illnesses and today has shown itself from the best side. It is endowed with frisky traction at the top and pulls beautifully from idle. For a subcompact C-class, it is enough even for drivers with racing ambitions, within reason.

Therefore, from time to time, the engine must be fired up, running along the highway at above-average speeds. The rest of the motor is exemplary reliable. Even the timing chain will have to be updated only after 250,000 km. And the engine resource reaches 350 thousand km.
Mitsubishi 2.0 4B11
This engine has been in production since 2005. It was installed on many models of the concern, in particular on the Outlander and the tenth Lancer. The engine is completely aluminum, with cast-iron liners pressed into the block, a 16-valve head and hydraulic compensators in the valve drive. The variable valve timing system in two versions: only on the intake valves or on both shafts, and the timing mechanism is chain.
Build quality and metal is very decent. The engine enters the repair zone mainly due to the natural wear of the cylinder-piston group. And this can happen to 300-400 thousand km. In addition, it has a repair size, and original spare parts can be purchased separately.

But the most important thing is that the sky-active “four” turned out to be extremely reliable. However, the reverse side of the coin can be called its exactingness to the quality of fuel and oil. Since “Skyactiv” motors use oil generously for waste, and its deficiency can lead to breakdown.
The motor of this series has been produced since 2011 and there have not been any special problems yet, and those that happened were quickly eliminated. Some cars with such an engine have run more than 250,000 km, and are still in service. True, the maintainability of the engine is not the highest, and there may be difficulties with spare parts.

The K4M engine from Renault traces its ancestry back to the 90s and has not changed much during this time. The cylinder block is cast iron, the piston group is time-tested and is not prone to oil consumption. The motor is distinguished by excellent traction on the bottoms and a rather modest fuel appetite, and is also indifferent to slight overheating. When using high-quality consumables, timely replacement of consumables, especially a timing belt with rollers and a coolant pump, the motor shows miracles of reliability.
True, the masters call the engine snotty – after 150,000 km, valve cover gaskets, oil seals and crankshaft and camshaft seals begin to flow. Occasionally, failures occur in motor electronics – sensors and blocks, ignition coils fail. And that’s probably all. Before the overhaul, the K4M can easily run 400,000 km. Moreover, the cost of parts and labor will be very modest.
