Cisco summed up the results of 2021 in the field of network technologies and information security, and also made a forecast for 2022. This information is contained in the company’s new research – 2021 Global Networking Trends and Security Outcomes Study Volume 2.

Disaster recovery (45%) and adapting to new business needs (40%) were the top challenges for global networks in 2021, according to a Cisco Networking Trends report. At the same time, the most important trend in the outgoing year was the Naas cloud model with the ability to purchase and plan network functions without the need to own, create and maintain your own infrastructure.

Finding 1: If organizations need more resilience and flexibility in their network infrastructure, then for many, Naas is the answer. Disaster recovery (45%) and adaptation to new business needs (40%) were identified as the main challenges for the 2021 network. At the same time, respondents acknowledge that the main advantage of Naas is the freeing up of IT professionals who can spend more time on innovation and business issues (46%);
Technology advances faster than organizations can implement it.

More than 75% of organizations agree that implementing Naas will provide IT professionals with opportunities to improve their skills. At the same time, today only one in four organizations could entrust their own staff with the translation of business needs into technical policies, the rest prefer system integrators, managed service providers and Naas vendors;

The Security Outcomes Study Volume 2 identified the most effective measures to protect organizations from cyber threats. Respondents shared practices for modernizing and integrating security architectures, detecting and remediating threats, and staying operational in the event of an attack.

The main results of the report:

modernization and integration of architecture. Automation and integration in complex information security solutions increases their efficiency by 7 times, and the threat detection functionality in this case is 40% more effective. For companies using cloud architectures, the readiness to modernize is more than doubled. In the absence of qualified personnel, more than 75% of information security solutions work more successfully due to the high level of automation;

detection and response to threats. Information security departments in organizations with mature implementations of Zero Trust and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) architectures are 35% more efficient than their peers on the cusp of such technologies. Moreover, organizations that use intelligent methods of dealing with threats eliminate the consequences of attacks twice as fast;

maintaining the viability of the business in the event of an attack. In organizations that regularly check the readiness of information security systems, the likelihood of maintaining the health of the business increases two and a half times. The best indicators are shown by companies in which top management controls business continuity and disaster recovery issues.

According to Cisco information security expert Mikhail Kader, the study also showed that Russia is one of the three leaders in terms of the level of consolidation of information security service providers. 43.8% of the market, according to the respondents, belongs to 2-5 companies.
