5G is as ‘dangerous’ as showering

The fifth generation 5G network, as conceived by its authors, has unique advantages. The technology is capable of providing connection speeds 5 times higher than 4G LTE technologies – the basis of modern cellular networks.
Many Internet users believe that 5G technology will enable self-driving cars, the Internet of Things, and thousands of new innovative projects. In addition, the technology will encourage home broadband Internet service providers to increase their speed even further to compete successfully with cellular networks.

But it is unlikely that such a global innovation was created only for gamers and housewives – the powerful of this world, of course, also pursue their own interests. In addition, it is quite obvious that behind many advantages, this innovation hides behind itself disadvantages that can negatively affect human health and life. Although it seems that Russian industry departments are not opposed to the introduction of such technologies in our country, and mobile operators are already practically competing for the future leadership in owning the rights to use 5G.

Back in 2018, Rostelecom, together with Finnish Nokia, launched the first public network of the fifth generation on the territory of Skolkovo. At that time, the 5G network was in test mode, in the frequency bands of 1800 MHz and 3500 MHz Despite the fact that the details of this standard have not been approved, the authors of the technology promised that its final version will achieve data exchange rates of up to 10 GB per second. Rostelecom predicted that the first commercial network could appear in Russia by 2020. In 2019, the State Commission on Radio Frequencies (SCRF) satisfied the applications of MTS and Megaton for obtaining frequencies for joint testing of the fifth generation (5G) mobile communication technology.

It is clear that the circle of interested participants in these projects is motivated exclusively by marketing characteristics. Yes, this is a new modern network. Yes, it will make the job of those looking for fast internet easier. But such a network needs to create a powerful infrastructure with towers and multifunctional devices that are already working in test mode, instilling fear in the residents of the area nearby.

Difficult to the point of stupidity

Earlier this year, CNBC journalist Todd Haselton tested the best 5G network in New York from the leading US cellular operator. The observer admitted that using 5G even in the center of one of the largest cities in the world is ridiculously difficult.

It turned out that the coverage of such commercial 5G networks is extremely small. Despite the fact that the device will catch the network and the connection speed will exceed 1 Grit / s, it is enough to take just a few steps, and the connection quality drops sharply. And if you walk one or two blocks from the place of “ideal 5G”, it doesn’t even smell like being connected to fifth-generation networks. After testing the network, the journalist decided to look at a 5G coverage map in downtown New York. The picture did not please him – there were negligible such zones.

The journalist is sure that 5G is being promoted on all fronts solely because of the desire of operators to cash in on the new technology. Quoting him, BLOHA.ru writes that it will be years before the world really understands why we need 5G in our smartphones.

Millimeter coverage

Currently, the focus is on innovative businesses. The network is being created in the millimeter-wave frequency range, which promises significantly higher speeds and, at the same time, less significant network delays. 5G network is coverage mainly in urban areas with high traffic density. Outside the coverage area of the 5G network, subscribers will be able to use the services of the LTE network, as well as the LTE-A network (or 5G Evolution, although this technology does not apply to 5G).

5G in the US has not yet received much demand among users, and the market in other countries is not particularly interested in such technologies. It is likely that as the choice and availability of mobile and portable 5G devices expand, as well as cases of successful implementation, the business community will show its interest in these solutions.

Today, such networks are banned in a number of American cities. Active discussions are underway in Switzerland. Concerns are also expressed at the international level – a number of UN officials submitted a report on the potential harm of 5G technology to the organization’s secretary general for consideration. And Belgium, in which the main bodies of the European Union are concentrated, has banned the use of this network.

“The inhabitants of Brussels are not guinea pigs, and I cannot neglect their health, despite the possible profit,” said Celine Renault, Minister of Environment and Quality of Life of Belgium in 2019.

Without laboratory research, discussing the harm of technology is risky.  And if the networks of previous generations operate at frequencies up to 5 GHz, then 5G uses the range 24-90 GHz (up to 90 billion oscillations per second). Experts say that ultra-low sound vibrations lead to serious damage to the lungs, which is close to death. With ultra-high frequencies, it is about the same – already the ultraviolet range is carcinogenic, and the intense X-ray range is fatal.

5G operates on radio frequencies located between acoustic and optical bands, but there are no known clinical studies of the effect of these frequencies so far. After all, until now they have been used mainly in medical devices, and then only for a short time. And also at some radar tracking stations as signals sent to the deserted sky. But if this impact is directed at people and on an ongoing basis, it is difficult to imagine the magnitude of the consequences.

A polarizing opinion was expressed by a specialist in the field of mobile technologies (deep-review.com). He claims that the 5G network is completely safe for humans. Any electromagnetic radiation can have only two unsafe effects. The first one is thermal, which radiation from Wi-Fi, 4G-, 5G-networks, etc. possesses.

The more powerful such radiation, the more it will heat a person or plants. Microwave and Wi-Fi are good examples. Both devices operate at the same frequency, only the radiation power in the microwave is thousands of times higher. By increasing the power of Wi-Fi to the level of a microwave, we will get a device for quickly warming up food, plus high-speed Internet. 5G power is negligible, it is not capable of heating human tissue. In this regard, the electromagnetic radiation from the sun, to which we are exposed on a daily basis, is much more dangerous than the fifth generation of communication.
