Let’s start with HP devices. However, not because it is one of the leaders in printing devices. The fact is that until recently HP remained an adherent of a single cartridge, where the print head and ink container are combined. And now HP inkjet products use separate cartridges. But she did not just separate the cartridge into two parts, as, for example, in Epson or Canon printers. Let’s go even further. A very interesting layout of the print head and ink tanks was applied. The ink tanks themselves are stationary in the body, and are connected to the block of printheads by a flexible pipe. As a result, the speed of movement of the heads is significantly increased and, at the same time, high positioning accuracy is ensured. Also, this separation allows you to fully use the ink supply. If one of the containers runs out of ink, then it can be replaced with a new one without interrupting printing. A similar layout was used in large format plotters. It turns out that HP has adapted the technology from the industrial field for personal inkjet devices and called it HP Scalable Printing Technology.
HP Viera Scalable Printing Technology Ink Cartridges
Interestingly and radically solved in such a system and the issue of efficiency. The main unpleasant moment of printers with separate cartridges is drying of ink and, as a result, clogging of nozzles, if the printer is idle for a long time without work. It uses a closed bi-directional ink supply system between printheads and ink tanks, in addition, the heads are placed in a multi-level filter. During initialization, ink is pumped through flexible lines into the print head, followed by a test print. If the system has determined that there is an excess of ink in the heads, the ink is pumped out into a special separator, where the foamed ink settles from the air. Under the influence of high pressure, the process of the release of air bubbles proceeds quite quickly, after which the paint is pumped back into the cartridge. Before printing each job, the system evaluates the ink supply and issues a warning if there is a shortage. But even if it is assumed that there is not enough ink to print a given image, there is still a certain amount of ink in the print head. Therefore, the picture will still be reprinted to the end. The print head itself is also manufactured using the latest technology. It is produced in an integrated manner by photolithography, which has resulted in a significant increase in the number of nozzles, a decrease in their size and an increase in the printed area in one pass. In addition, this integral head structure greatly improves color registration in printing.
Easy to Use Printer – HP Photosmart D7263
New from HP the Photosmart D7263 printer. A kind of home machine that combines the convenience of photo printing, printing documents of laser quality, and, moreover, allows you to work in a home network. Print speeds up to 34 ppm black and 33 ppm color. You can print realistic photos without connecting to a computer, and using the 8.9 cm interactive screen, it is easy to select and edit the necessary pictures. There is an automatic tray for 10×15 cm and 13×18 cm photo paper.
Epson devices have long used a separate system of cartridges, only the ink tanks and printheads are located as standard, in a single unit, on a movable carriage. Epson uses piezoelectric printing and is not going to change the technology. All innovations are mainly technological improvements. However, the company pays a lot of attention to the ink itself, and it is often indicated that the composition of Epson dyes is “know-how” and no “compatible” inks can compare with the original ones. The company has developed a new print head Epson Micro Piezo and implemented a technology for printing with drops of variable size, where the smallest details and light shades are drawn in small drops of 1 pl., And uniform areas of the image are filled with larger ones. The hardware change also required a new ink formula. One type of ink is DURABrite Ultra. It is a pigment ink and is used by Epson in four-color printers. The pigment particles in the ink are enclosed in a polymer shell. When applied to paper, the particles are held together by polymer and paper to form a flat surface. As a result, light is optimally reflected off the paper, which ensures good color rendering.
Printer manufacturers have used some pigment ink cartridges, such as black, for some of their printers to produce richer tones. Here, pigment dye is used for all four colors, which allows for long-lasting and rich color images. DURABrite Ultra offers a wider color gamut than conventional 4-color inks. A feature of the new ink is its versatility, i.e. it is possible to print both documents and high-quality photographs on any media, and they are optimized for high-quality printing on plain paper, which is the most commonly used medium at home and in the office. In addition, pigment inks, unlike conventional inks, are ideally compatible with glossy substrates.
Since this type of ink does not absorb into the paper, the image does not show through from the back, which allows for duplex printing. Thus, the use of Epson DURABrite Ultra technology allows you to obtain clear black-and-white text and graphic images comparable to laser printing and at the same time high-quality saturated color images and photos, despite the participation in the printing process of only four inks. Prints made with this ink are water resistant and will last for a long time. The manufacturer declares impressive lightfastness of the prints – up to 200 years, depending on storage conditions and the type of paper.
One of the record holders in monochrome printing among inkjet printers – Epson Stylus C110
A new member of the Epson family where this technology is applied is the Stylus C110 printer. It is positioned as an office high-speed printer. Although a four-color printing system is used, there are five cartridges in the printer. It turns out that there are two black cartridges here, which is why such a unique print speed of 37 ppm is achieved. True, in draft mode, but practice shows that this quality is sufficient for documents, the more ink is saved. In normal mode, the speed is 25 ppm. The resolution is 5760×1440 dpi and the advantages of the ink that we have considered above make it possible to print high-quality photos, despite the fact that the printer has four colors, not six or more. Color print speed – 20/11 pages per minute, respectively for draft and normal printing.
